The initial phase of the National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC), designed to monitor the country’s web traffic for identifying cybersecurity threats, has become operational, as revealed in Parliament on Wednesday. The NCCC is responsible for scanning incoming internet traffic to identify real-time cyber threats and promptly notifying relevant organizations and internet service providers for timely intervention.
Additionally, the government has activated a botnet and malware cleaning center aimed at identifying malicious software on citizens’ devices and removing them. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, PP Chaudhary, informed the Lok Sabha about the operationalization of Phase-I of the NCCC. This center, operating at the metadata level, scans the cyberspace in the country to generate situational awareness and enhance cybersecurity.
The NCCC, functioning as a multi-stakeholder body, is implemented by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) within the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It operates under the authority granted by Section 69B of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the associated rules.
